On the auspicious occasion of Guru Pournima, Suranjan brings to you an online session celebrating the musical genius of Gaan-Saraswati Kishoritai Amonkar. This will be an interactive discussion with three of her eminent disciples, Pt. Arun Dravid, Smt. Nandini Bedekar and Smt. Manjiri Asnare-Kelkar as they share their memories of their great Guru.

Gaan-Saraswati Kishoritai Amonkar
Stalwart of Classical Music and Guru
Gaan-Saraswati Kishoritai Amonkar was one of the most accomplished and evolutionary musicians of her time, leaving behind a legacy that transcends generations. She received her training in Hindustani Classical music, from her mother, Smt. Moghubai Kurdikar, herself a well-noted vocalist of the Jaipur Gharana. Apart from her mother, she also received lessons from Smt. Anjanibai Malpekar, Anwar Hussain Khan and Pt. Sharadchandra Arolkar as well as Balkrishnabuwa Parwatkar. Kishoritai was instrumental in presenting a style of music focused on the importance of emotion in Classical music. She also received the Padma Vibhushan in 2002, recognizing her contribution to Indian music. Kishoritai passed away in 2017, leaving behind a legacy of students and Classical music.

Pt. Arun Dravid
Dr. Arun Dravid is a senior exponent of the Jaipur-Atrauli gharana. By educational qualification, he is a gold medalist from IIT, Bombay, and a Ph.D. from MIT, USA. He began his early training under the tutelage of Abdul Majid Khan, a disciple of Alladiya Khan. He became the first formal disciple of Kishoritai and had a long association with her. He also received invaluable guidance from Mogubai Kurdikar. He is now engaged in imparting his wisdom of the gharana’s gayaki to the next generation.
Smt. Nandini Bedekar
Vidushi Nandini Bedekar who was trained rigorously by her Guru Gaanasaraswati Kishori Amonkar for 35 years out of which first 10 years were spent living with her Guru. Her journey is as unique as her music. Just like her Guru, she carries forward the Guru Shishya Parampara with today’s generation and she wonderfully continues to keep her Guru’s legacy alive. She is an accomplished vocalist and one of Kishoritai's most senior disciples.
Smt. Manjiri Asnare-Kelkar
Born in a traditional music family, her father, Anand Asanare, was a well-known tabla artist and the guiding spirit behind her in the field of Music
Smt. Manjiri Asnare Kelkar has inherited the rich tradition of Jaipur Atrauli gharana from Pt. Kanetkar, a noted doyen of the gharana.
She started her musical training under Pt. C. T. Mhaiskar.
Manjiri was a scholar in her academic career and a rank holder in the University. Manjiri was the recipient of the prestigious Surashri Kesarbai Kerkar scholarship instituted by N.C.P.A. and P.L.Deshpande Foundation in the year 1994. In addition to being an accomplished vocalist, she is also a well-known Kathak dancer.
