Passion 2023
Hindustani Classical Vocal and Tabla Competition
Passion is a Competition for Hindustani Classical Music organized by Suranjan. After an overwhelming response from across the globe to an online mode of the competition over the past years, Passion is here again, in 2023 in a Hybrid mode.
This year, while the first two rounds will be conducted online, the grand finale will be held in Mumbai, as an in-person concert.
This fifth edition of Passion is bigger than ever, with a Tabla category in addition to the Vocal category.
With this inclusion, we hope to encourage the students of classical music to participate and help them get valuable exposure.
The competition is open to all participants across the globe.

With the vision of spreading the importance and permanent relevance of Hindustani Classical Music to the future of India, Suranjan proudly presents the fifth season / year of Passion 2023 , a competition for students of Hindustani Classical Music. While during the last couple of years, Passion was conducted completely on Digital Platform because of Covid restrictions, this year, Passion 2023 will be held in a Hybrid mode, presenting an unprecedented opportunity to both the participants as well as the organisers.
As was in the previous years, Passion 2023 is open to all participants across the globe.
This year, students learning Tabla will also get a fantastic opportunity to participate, making it a very unique experience for the participants as well as judges of the competition.
Participants from India will travel to Mumbai for the final round. They will perform live on the stage in front of the judges.
Participants from outside of India will perform live in front of the judges in the final round via online streaming. Suranjan will arrange projector/screen/internet infrastructure during the final round.
Judges
Passion 2023 has been blessed with a distinguished panel of judges for the Final Round. Each the esteemed judges is a stalwart in their own respect. It is a great opportunity for the participants to perform in front of the eminent judges during the Final Round and learn from their guidance.
Performance Categories
Based on the feedback from earlier years, we are happy to extend Passion 2023 to the Tabla category . Apart from Classical Vocal, we welcome students of Tabla Solo to Passion 2023. Other Percussion instrumentalists such Pakhwaj, Mrudungam, etc. are not included this year.
Vocal
Only Hindustani Classical Vocal Khayal and Dhrupad is included.
Semi-classical, Thumri, Tappa, Ghazal, Light Music, Carnatic Classical Music is not included.

The competition will take place in the three rounds, as explained. While the first two rounds will be on the Digital Platform, the Final Round will be an in-person concert.
Preliminary Round - Google Drive
The last date for registration is 9th July, 2023.
Once the registration form has been filled, Suranjan will immediately send the Google Drive Link to the participants.
The participants are expected to record a video of their performance and upload it on this link.
The last date for submission of video entry is
14th July, 2023 12 Midnight IST.
Participants from outside of India, please note the time. Video Upload closes 12 Mid night IST. Please plan accordingly.
Second Round - Facebook Live
Second Round will be held via Facebook Live, on Suranjan's channel. The shortlisted participants from each group from the Preliminary Round will perform in the second round live.
The Second Round is tentatively scheduled for
4th - 6th August, 2023.
Final Round - In Person Concert
The Grand Finale of Passion 2023 will be held as an in-person concert in Mumbai. The shortlisted participants will get to perform live in front of the eminent panel of judges and learn from their guidance.
The Grand Final for the Tabla competition is scheduled for
26th August, 2023.
The Grand Final for the Vocal competition is scheduled for
2nd September, 2023.

Here are the prizes that will be awarded to the winners of each group, in Vocal as well as Instrumental.

Participants standing second and third will be given a certificate and an opportunity to perform on Suranjan's platform.
All participants will receive participation certificates.
Round II Results
We are happy to announce the results of Round II of Passion 2023. The shortlisted participants will now perform during the final round of the competition on 26th August 2023 (Tabla) and 2nd September 2023 (Vocal) at Dadar Matunga Cultural Center, Mumbai.

Suranjan’s team of judges spent a considerable amount of time carefully evaluating each performance based on a set of objective parameters. The entire process was completely fair and unbiased, executed transparently on a digital platform with complete audit trail and documentation of feedback and rating by the judges.
