In this edition of Horizons, we feature two young and upcoming artists in the field of classical music, Neha Gurav from Mumbai, India, and Akshay Mategaonkar from Mumbai, India.
Neha Gurav
Born to musician parents, it was only natural that Neha Gurav took to music at a very young age. She is a young and proficient Raagdari exponent as a result of rigorous taleem of 16 years under acclaimed classical vocalist & Guru Sanjeev Chimmalgi. She has completed her Masters in Music from SNDT women's university. Neha Gurav is a recipient of prestigious scholarships from Maharashtra Lalit Kala Nidhi (MLKN), Dadar Matunga Cultural Centre and Dept. of Culture (CCRT). Now performing professionally, she has presented her style of music under various presitigious banners such as Pancham Nishad, Maharashtra Lalit KalaNidhi, Dadar Matunga Cultural Centre, Saptak, Inner Courtyard and Samarpan to name a few.
Akshay Mategaonkar
Born into a musically inclined family, Akshay was initiated into music at a very young age. He first started training for classical music under the guidance of his mother, Smt. Meenal Mategaonkar, an accomplished vocalist herself. Since the past 8 years, Akshay has been learning under the tutelage of Shri. Nishad Bakre. He has participated in various inter-school and inter-collegiate competitions of classical music, such as Sharda Sangeet Vidyalaya and Swar Sadhana Samiti, Mumbai. He has also performed at venues such as Chitnavis Centre, Nagpur and in Suranjan's Guru Abhivadan Sohala.
